- abstain from any industrial food (including protein bars e.g.), junk food, alcohol and sodas. Reduce sugar by a huge margin. Be very careful with restaurant food (especially salad sauces, e.g.). Cereals are industrial foods as well. Its presumed 'healthiness' is a decades old scam of the food industry.
- Never buy diet products, like low carb, sugar free, low fat, e.g.. It's usually terrible industrial food with a lot of artificial stuff with low nutritional value.
- Be careful with artificial sweeteners. Stevia should be okay.
- Learn about healthy eating and healthy cooking. For example here: Authority Nutrition - An Evidence-Based Approach

- Ignore all diets which are based on any supplements or 'special' or 'super' foods. It's often a scam and it's all a part of money making schemes by the billion USD diet and fitness industry.
- Anyway, what ever you do, a huge change of your eating habits awaits you, hopefully for many years to come.
IMPORTANT
Choose the diet that you like most and which suits best in regard to your life (style). There is no secret diet solution or magic diet. Diet fads come and go. Currently the Paleo Diet is In while Atkins is Out...
